London Chamber Meets With Minister Rechie Valdez
On November 15th, the London Chamber of Commerce had the honour of hosting Minister Rechie Valdez, the Federal Minister of Small Business, in order to discuss and share about the community and how the federal government can support businesses in London. Joined by members of the Chamber board as well as members of the London business community, the group discussed many of the issues that London businesses are currently facing. This included competition for tech talent with the US, keeping Canadian talent in Canada, funding for the Canadian Summer Jobs Program, as well as increasing access to capital for businesses with less than 20 employees and perhaps most importantly, an extension to the CEBA repayment deadline. The Chamber has requested that that repayment deadline be extended to 2030 with the forgivable portion of the loan increasing to 50%. To encourage faster repayment, this portion would decrease gradually to 0% by 2030. The Chamber would like to thank Minister Rechie Valdez and her team for joining us for a productive discussion and we look forward to working with her in the future.
