Description

Join us on November 7th to hear from Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development, Monte McNaughton. As the provincial government returns to the legislature, McNaughton will share developments on the government’s plan to create a more competitive business environment, build stronger communities and prepare people for jobs. This will be Minister McNaughton’s first major speech in Southwestern Ontario since he was promoted to a new portfolio that includes responsibility for apprenticeships and training. All members of the business community are welcome to attend, including those in the financial services, construction trades, and training and skills development industries.

About Monte McNaughton

Monte McNaughton, MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, and Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development, is a life-long conservative and community leader. He has served three consecutive terms as a Member of Provincial Parliament.

He graduated from Westervelt Business College and successfully completed executive programs at the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western University. Between 2009-10, he served as President of the Strathroy and District Chamber of Commerce.

McNaughton was elected to the provincial legislature in 2011 and served in numerous critic positions, most notably as Official Opposition Critic for Economic Development.

McNaughton was sworn in as Ontario’s Minister of Infrastructure in June 2018. As Minister, he embarked on an ambitious market consultation, introduced legislation aimed at expanding natural gas into rural parts of the province, and announced an investment to renovate and expand Canada’s oldest concert hall.

In June 2019 he was appointed Minister of Labour.  He has since embarked on a province-wide listening tour designed to open a new dialogue with labour partners. That includes meeting with more than 150 labour leaders in his first four months. In September, he became the first Minister of Labour in decades to march in the Toronto Labour Day parade. In October 2019, his portfolio was expanded to include Training and Skills Development.

McNaughton and his wife Kate have a daughter, Annie, and live in Mt. Brydges, Ontario.
